If you see a raccoon during the day on your property, it could be cause for alarm. Because raccoons are nocturnal, a raccoon active during the day might indicate rabies. But a female raccoon will be active during the day if she has babies to feed.

When do raccoons have babies?

Generally born in late spring, when raccoons have babies depends on the part of the country. Raccoons in Chicago and Detroit typically give birth as late as June. Homeowners in Houston will find baby raccoons in March and April.

Raccoons have one liter a year of two to five kits. Young raccoons are at high risk of starvation because they have little time to build up fat reserves before winter. Babies rely on their mothers to find safe shelters, and female raccoons frequently choose chimneys as denning sites. This leads to obvious conflict with humans.

How many babies do raccoons have?

Most litters of raccoons contain two to five offspring, known as kits.

What does a baby raccoon look like?

Baby raccoons look very similar to adults, the only difference being their size. Newborns do not open their eyes until their third week of life, so they are dependent on their mothers. Even after baby raccoons have grown large enough to run, climb, and forage for food on their own, they stay with their mothers for about a year.

Why do baby raccoons cry?

Like most mammals, baby raccoons cry when they're hungry. If you hear cries from the attic during the day, it's a good sign there's a raccoon family living in your house.

Are baby raccoons friendly?

Even though baby raccoons look cute and cuddly, they will still bite and scratch. Raccoons are not born with rabies, but instead exposed to the disease at birth by the mother as she grooms the newborn.

If you find a baby raccoon, avoiding handling it. Keep the animal safe and secure as close to where you found it. If the mother hasn’t returned during the night, find a local wildlife rehabilitator. Do not feed the raccoon milk!

What do I do if a raccoon family is in my attic?

Given any indication that a raccoon family is nesting on the premises, property owners should contact professional wildlife removal services such as Critter Control. Attempting to forcibly remove families of raccoons may lead to injury or the transmission of disease. Mother raccoons will fiercly defend her young. Contacting technicians trained in the humane removal of problematic raccoons keeps all involved people and animals safe.

BAT POOP CLEAN-UP AND PREVENTION! Bat guano removed from gables. No bats found in attic, so put new screens on all gable vents, as one screen was close to breaking and then bats may have gotten in! Great work in Tulsa!

Squirrels and chipmunks were in our attic. So we called Critter Control to do an inspection. Their representative climbed all over our very steep roof and found several places where squirrels had entered our attic.

Upon inspection of the attic, evidence of bats was also found. The Critter Control team came on time to completely caulk the entire perimeter of the house and create an exit strategy for the squirrels and bats.

Because bat droppings can cause histoplasmosis, this also required total removal and replacement of our attic insulation and sanitizing the space. Not a small job in a 1,300 sq. ft. attic! While Critter Control’s cost was high, our homeowners insurance covered most of it. Everyone representing Critter Control was professional, courteous and timely. I would highly recommend them to anyone who thinks they might have unwelcome guests living in their attic

On recommendations from a nearby pest control company, I called Critter Control for suspicious bat droppings.

Madison came out the same day to do an inspection. She was knowledgeable, thorough, and highly professional. She examined the ‘matter’ that had been scattered on my threshold and thought it was foliage. But she then asked to go up to my attic space where the bats could be roosting. She had to walk up 3 flights of stairs with a heavy ladder. She again spent some time searching all the nooks and crannies and found nothing.

She seemed so interested in her craft, it was truly inspiring to see! She reassured me and is writing up a prevention strategy for my appraisal. She charged me NOTHING!! I am so impressed. We need more Madisons in this world!

We noticed droppings on our brand new deck - we were given their number from our contractor. They came the next day. Brian looked at it and said - yeah, bats!! He then checked every area in our attic and he explained exactly what needed to be done.

He found evidence of a mice infestation, provided a referral and they are helping us as well. Great service, very informative, very professional! We are very satisfied and would recommend them to anyone who has any issues with any critters!

I had an issue with a probable raccoon in my chimney. Although there wasn't one at the time they came out, Criiter Control did place a cover that wouldn't allow anymore visits from my nighttime visitor. They were very fair in their pricing and I would definitely use them again if needed.

Two neighbors attics were occupied by raccoon families and it took several days to evict them. Worried that they may move to my home I hired Critter Control to secure my roof entrances to prevent any access for the raccoons. My house was accessed the day after my initial phone call and the job was completed the following day. Critter Control was extremely professional in all steps needed for the completion of the job. I am relieved that my home is secure from any pests attempting to make it their home!

We had a very positive experience with Critter Control in Aurora CO. They helped us evict a very determined raccoon from our attic.

All of their personnel were very polite and helpful, especially the guy who did the work at our house. They were careful to outline the costs and everything that needed to be done before we made any commitment, and they held to that. They also performed the work exactly as scheduled.

We were very impressed with them and would recommend them to anyone.

We were using a company for 2plus years that kept charging us and never getting down to the root of the problem . The son took over the fathers business and he came out and told us we should be happy he skipped his lunch for us. We kicked him out and started calling around.

Critter Control was a referral from a much smaller company. Travis showed up the same day I called and I’m sure he couldn’t believe all the problems we had had in the past. But he went through one step at a time and started making his expert recommendations.

We had problems with groundhogs than the raccoons kicked them out of the holes to have babies . While the momma racoon was nursing she got aggressive and attacked my fiancé coming out of our patio door .

Travis was able to resolve ALL the problems get them fixed and put up fencing up to prevent future problems . Our backyard looked like an episode of caddy shack it was getting dangerous and out of control. Travis helped resolve one problem at a time . We feel very confident that we can feel safe in our yard for now on .

I highly recommend Critter Control . No one should have had to go through 2 years like we did with this other company. Critter Control had a big project here but got us done in a timely manner . We couldn’t be happier . Ask for Travis yes your guy !!!!!!!
