Florida is home to 4,368 known animal species, with 269 species found only in Florida. With so much wildlife enjoying the sandy white beaches and the clear emerald green waters, tourists and locals can expect an encounter. Hopefully, the encounter will be pleasant and not a nuisance.

Driving along the water on U.S. Route 98 is one of the best ways to experience Bay County and the rest of the Florida Panhandle. Everyone can agree that the Panama City-Lynn Haven broader community a wonderful place to live. I mean, we all do live here after all. But when we’re out and about enjoying what Panama City has to offer, we don’t really want to be thinking about that pest removal problem going on at home.

If you own property in Panama City, you have made a significant investment that must be protected from nuisance wildlife. If you rent your property, your tenants may not understand Florida's regulations on nuisance wildlife. They may not be prepared for the raccoons, squirrels, bats, skunks, opossums, armadillos, snakes, and rodents they may encounter during their visit.

Critter Control Wildlife Removal Process

Critter Control is here for you every step of the way in the wildlife removal process. From inspection to removal—and even exclusion and repair—we have the services you need to get rid of raccoons, rodents, and other nuisances fast. First, we identify the animal on the property, then use humane methods to remove the animal and secure weak points where more could enter. If damage has been done, we can make those repairs for a complete restoration.
STEP 1

Wildlife Inspection

During the inspection we try to ascertain how many animals there are, where they are located, and how they got in. Based on what you have seen, heard and smelled, we start the inspection where you have noticed signs of animal activity. Evidence of animals inside your home include nests, dens, feces, and animal tracks. We investigate the exterior of your home looking for possible entry points, any evidence of animal damage, tracks, fur, animal waste, or rub marks.
STEP 2

Removal

We use several methods to humanely remove the animal from your home. Depending on the species, the number of animals, and the condition of your property, we develop a custom wildlife removal plan. Humane wildlife removal strategies include animal traps, one-way doors, and repellents. Once we guarantee all animals are gone, we implement exclusion techniques. Exclusion techniques provide a safe, long-term solution to nuisance wildlife in your home. We create barriers to prevent animals from getting to resources. We only apply exclusions once we are sure all animals are gone from your home.
STEP 3

Exclusion and Repair

Wildlife will damage your home. Exclusion techniques repair any damage the animal causes getting into your home. Inside your home, animals build nests and dens out of readily available material. They will create runs through the insulation. Rodents will gnaw on anything including electrical wires and pipes. Animals can also spread diseases. We apply sanitation agents to clean up feces and urine. Mammals can host pests like fleas, ticks, and mites. Ectoparasite treatments exterminate those pests so you don’t become their next host.

Raccoon Removal

The raccoon populatoin in Florida are growing in number. Their permanent masks and banded tails make them easy to identify. You may not see them often but recognize the wreckage they leave behind, like the scattered trash, missing garden crops, and holes in your yard. Raccoons will eat just about anything, including insects, small animals, fish, garden crops, pet food, and people's food. If you have any of these outside your home, you can attract a raccoon.

Raccoons will enter your attic to create a nest. They will scratch flooring, shred insulation, break shingles, and cover the area in feces and urine. They leave greasy smudges on anything their fur touches and don't mind using parts of your attic as their restroom. Raccoons also enjoy pooping on the steps of a swimming pool. So if your home or investment property has a pool, you will want to take prevention steps. Florida has regulations for removing raccoons. You cannot relocate a raccoon outside of your county, and if you relocate them on someone else's property, it must be at least 40 acres and have written permission from the landowner. Raccoons are considered furbearers and have laws regarding hunting and trapping.
Inspection

Inspection

During the inspection, we determine the severity of the raccoon infestation. We look for physical evidence like footprints in or around the home, stains from raccoon feces and urine. On the exterior of the house, we look for damage like scratches on boards, broken vents and screens, ripped apart shingles, destroyed soffits, and every possible entry point.

Raccoon Trapping

Raccoon Trapping

Live trapping is one of the most efficient ways to get rid of a raccoon. Depending on the situation, a one-way door or excluder valve can be installed. An excluder valve works by allowing the raccoon to leave but blocks its reentry. The choice of device is largely dependent on the season and location of the raccoons on your property. Direct capture is not commonly used because raccoons are a rabies vector species. If we must trap, we place traps strategically to safely catch the raccoons and we check traps frequently, based on state laws.
Repairs

Repairs

We provide a wide range of repair and restoration services. We can repair raccoon damage like broken screens on vents and chimneys and broken boards on decks and porches. It is essential to apply cleaning agents and ectoparasite treatments on areas inhabited by raccoons.

Rat and Mice Pest Control

The most common rat and mouse nuisances are the Norway rat, black rat, and house mouse, all non-native to the Bay County. Rodents can cause a lot of damage and leave many offspring in that short period. Rats are attracted to food, water, and shelter. Pet feed, bird feeders, and trash cans attract rodents. It's good to note that rodents attract raccoons.

Rat and mouse exterminators can eliminate two nuisances. There aren't any regulations regarding capturing and removing rats and mice. However, some specifics can make the job easier. Wildlife control technicians can teach you the correct traps and baits for rodents, which are very clever and suspicious, and understand how to avoid a trap. Rats can fit through a hole the size of a golf ball and mice through a hole the size of a quarter.

Once inside your home, they build nests, chew wires, contaminate foods, and leave trails of urine and feces. The sooner you call for help, the better. When you see one rodent, there are others nearby. Rats and mice can have several litters within the same year. They reproduce and multiply quickly. It doesn't take long to have an infestation.

We can help. Rat removal and mouse removal can take days or weeks, depending on the size of the problem. You or your tenants must never handle rats and mice without protection. They can transmit up to 35 diseases to humans.
Inspection

Inspection

During a rodent inspection, we thoroughly inspect your attic and provide a complete exterior home inspection. The most common signs of rodent activity are gnaw marks, feces, rub marks, nesting material, runs in insulation material, and small entry points.

Rodent Trapping

Rodent Trapping

A Critter Control wildlife specialist will create a strategic trapping plan to remove the rodents found in your home. Critter Control specialists may use snap traps and live traps to capture and remove mice and rats. Rodent trapping can usually takes between five to fourteen days.
Repairs

Repairs

The best way to reduce the possibility of letting unwanted rodents into homes is to seal possible entrances. Exclusion methods include caulking cracks in foundations, capping chimneys, and installing mesh covers over vents and crawl space entrances. We also strongly recommend a maintenance service. Rodents have front teeth that continuously grow, which means they can gnaw a new way back into your home.

Squirrel Removal

Squirrels on the Lost Coast include the fox, Southern fox, and Eastern gray squirrels. While it is fun to watch squirrels in action, scurrying around and collecting goodies, you must also be aware of the damage they can do to your property. Squirrels like to create nests inside your attic, walls, chimney, and ducts. They also create fire hazards, broken boards, shredded insulation, and trails of feces and urine that can harbor mold spores. You will likely hear squirrels chirping, scratching, and moving their hoards, which include foods like nuts, grains, seeds, fruits, bird eggs, and more.

Because they are always on the go, squirrels are known to break shingles, siding, wires, and screens on a home to get from place to place. Squirrels have an innate desire to chew and gnaw due to their teeth being in a constant state of growth, which can cause pain. To prevent this, squirrels chew on hard surfaces, like any part of your house.

Squirrels are considered furbearers and may require permits. Understanding the regulations, including the removal of babies, is essential.
Inspection

Inspection

Wildlife specialists look for signs such as chewing on, in, or around your home, small openings leading to the attic or the crawl space, droppings, and debris like nuts or nesting material. Beams, wires, pipes, and insulation may all show signs of damage from squirrels.

Squirrel Trapping

Squirrel Trapping

Live trapping or one-way doors are the most effective and humane ways to get rid of squirrels. One-way doors should never be used during birthing seasons (Spring & Fall), so our specialists will decide which is the best tool for the job. If we have to trap, we place traps strategically to safely catch the squirrels and check those according to state laws.
Repairs

Repairs

We can restore your home or office by squirrel proofing all entry points after we have removed the offenders. We can also clean-up the nesting sites and remove any debris, food, feces and soiled insulation.

Bat Removal

Florida has 13 native bat species and seven non-native species found along the Panhandle. Bats are protected species in Florida, and according to Florida Administrative Code rule 68A-4.001, bats cannot be exterminated or harassed.

Bats can be removed if it is not between April and August, their maternity season, and as long as the temperature is forecasted to remain above 50 degrees. Also, the white-nose syndrome spreads throughout bat colonies, posing a threat to their existence. Bats are incredibly beneficial to the ecosystem as they consume thousands of insects every night. If you have a bat problem, you likely have a good source of insects and bugs nearby. Bats will roost in attics, eaves, bridges, sheds, barns, etc.

If the colony is big enough, you can hear bats at night. They also leave a lot of feces, or guano, in their roosting areas. Guano contains uric acid and grows mold spores that can lead to respiratory issues in humans if inhaled.
Inspection

Inspection

We perform a full interior and exterior inspection and search for signs such as rub marks, guano, a strong scent of ammonia, and small openings. The most common sign is the accumulation of guano (feces).

Bat Removal

Bat Removal

The most effective and humane way to remove bats is by utilizing a bat valve in conjunction with a full home exclusion. A bat valve allows for bats to exit your home but not re-enter. We follow all local ordinances for humane bat removal. We will never abandon flightless pups in your attic.
Repairs

Repairs

After removing the bat valves, we seal the entrance hole(s) so bats can no longer enter your home. If there is substantial guano in your attic, you should consider taking advantage of our attic remediation services to remove the soiled insulation and replace it.

Snake Removal

Snakes on the Emerald Coast are abundant. There are 44 native species. Only six snakes in Florida are venomous. Snakes, even venomous snakes, do not cause many problems. The rate of venomous snakebite is one death every four to five years, which is less than the deaths from lightning strikes.

Snakes help keep rodent populations under control, though. If you see snakes on your property, you likely have rats and mice around.

Most people want snakes removed. Snakes do not typically cause damage, but they can be an annoyance. Removing them can be tricky since some are endangered species, such as the Eastern Indigo snake, and there are special laws on how to get rid of them. Rules also exist for handling, caging, and transporting snakes.
Inspection

Inspection

Snakes are excellent at avoiding detection. We inspect your home for potential entry points and look for signs like snake skin and feces. Because a snake typically enters a home hunting for food, our wildlife inspector also looks for signs of a rodent infestation.

Removal & Control

Removal & Control

Depending on the location, we can set a live trap or direct capture. Exclusion is the most effective way to keep snakes out of your home. If rodents are present, it is essential to exterminate the rodent infestation. Their presence will continue to attract snakes.
Repairs

Repairs

In addition to dealing with any possible rodent problem drawing snakes to your property, a specialist will assist with sealing possible entry points and also encourage you to remove any debris where snakes can easily take up residence.

Armadillo Control

Armadillos present little danger to people. They greatest danger they pose is to your landscaping. Controlling the animal can protect your lawn and garden and the integrity of structures like decks and driveways on your property.
Inspection

Inspection

Our experts understand the habits and habitats of armadillos. We can assess if damages were caused by their burrows or digging.
Armadillo Removal

Armadillo Removal

We have tools and equipment to properly remove armadillos, like safe and humane traps to capture the animal. Every armadillo removal is different and may require different safety techniques, from live traps to fumigations and repellents.
Armadillo Repair

Armadillo Repair

Exclusion efforts include clearing debris, brush, and piles of wood or rocks. These are spots armadillos like to hide. We also cover burrows so an armadillo cannot return.

Opossum Control

Opossums are more of a nuisance than a real danger. They are very common in urban and suburban settings and will eat practically anything.  Opossums will use attics, crawlspaces and the areas under sheds and porches as dens.
Inspection

Inspection

Opossums can be found inside attics and basements or outside under decks and sheds. Common signs include unique paw prints and feces. Opossums are docile and usually easy to spot.

Trapping & Removal

Trapping & Removal

Opossums can be lured into cages for live capture. If it is maternity season, we follow all guidelines for removing mother and newborn opossums. We will seal entryways into the building to prevent opossums from reentering in the future. Opossums can be kept from getting under sheds and decks by installing fencing around the bottom edges and burying the fence underground.
Repairs

Repairs

Broken screens on chimney and roof vents are replaced with sturdier materials, and we properly seal all entry points, including crawlspaces. We clean and deodorize areas of opossum activity. Exclusion may include eliminating sources that attract bugs, like nighttime lighting, stagnant water, and livestock poop.

Bird Control

Residential Bird Control in Panama City

You’ll likely notice signs of a bird’s nest along grooves in your roof, within your chimney, or in cracks in your siding. Although you may be hesitant to call a wildlife control company in Vancouver, it’s essential to consider these services. Bird droppings can carry histoplasmosis, which can have negative effects on the lungs.

Commercial Bird Control in Panama City

The larger your commercial space, the increased challenge there is to reduce and remove birds. At Critter Control, we employ a few different methods, such as netting, sound devices, and roof spikes. Despite these efforts, it’s important to continue ongoing inspections as strategies that remove one bird species may make room for another to swoop in.

Inspection

Inspection

We thoroughly inspect the area for things that attract birds, like harborage and loafing areas, as well as food and water sources. Also, we look for where birds may be entering your home or business. We also inspect for damage caused by birds, whether it's by nesting, or by droppings.

Trapping & Removal

Trapping & Removal

After identifying the bird species, we may start by physically removing the species in question. In rescue situations, such as chimneys or basements, birds can be released on-site if the entrance has been secured properly. Occasionally, live traps will be used, especially if flocks of birds are involved. For persistent birds and larger flocks, several advanced techniques may be applied simultaneously including netting, spikes, ledge products, scare tactics, misting and more. The most effective method of bird control is prevention and exclusion.

Repairs & Prevention

Repairs & Prevention

We can repair the damage that is allowing birds entry to your home, like broken siding, weakened gutters, rotted soffits and fascia. We can also install protective screens on chimneys and vents. We can also remove nesting materials and accumulated droppings, then clean surface stains. We can use netting over fruit and vegetable crops and water basins. Netting can also be used in car ports, building overhangs and food courts. We also install a large number of different types of roof ledge barriers too.

Gopher Control

You probably won’t see a gopher or encounter one in your home. Mounds of dark, moist soil are the signs of an active gopher problem. One gopher can create several mounds in a day.

Gophers will dig through your yard, feed on your garden, and can even gnaw on irrigation systems. Gopher burrows can cover two hundred to two thousand square feet. For someone with little experience, that can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Inspection

Inspection

During the inspection, we survey your property for signs of gopher activity.  We look for mounds and burrows to measure the extent of the issue and the population density.  It is also important to determine the likelihood of re-infestation, by viewing adjacent properties for source populations.
Removal

Removal

A combination of techniques can be used to rid a property of gophers. Trapping, baiting and burrow treatment are often combined to provide the most comprehensive approach to eliminating the current population and then deterrents and regular inspections can help prevent, or quickly treat new infestations.
Repairs

Repairs

During the removal process, the unsightly mounds will be leveled out to begin the restoration process for the lawn or landscaped area. We also suggest tilling of the soil in garden areas to destroy existing tunnels. Newly planted shrubs and trees should have a wire basket installed in the hole prior to planting the plant to discourage gophers from getting to the internal root ball. Wire mesh can also be installed around an area to reduce the likelihood of gopher invasion but requires a trench 2-3 feet deep to be at all effective.
