Typical Wildlife in Chattanooga

Located on the Tennessee River in the southeastern section of the state, the city of Chattanooga is home to more than 180,000 residents and plenty of wild animals that can easily become nuisance wildlife if they get too close to homes and businesses. Critter Control is here for you every step of the way in the wildlife removal process.  With plenty of parks nearby and forests surrounding the city, Chattanooga offers lots of natural habitats for raccoons, mice, squirrels, bats, and skunks that may find themselves taking up residence among humans.

Squirrel Removal in Cleveland, TN

The state is home to five species of squirrels. Cleveland residents are familiar with the sight of squirrels running across yards and parks. Many people enjoy watching squirrels; however, if they get too close to home, or worse, make their way inside your home, they can cause quite a bit of stress and make an unsightly mess. For many people, the simplest solution to a squirrel invasion is to scare the animal back outside. Instead of this, please call a professional to handle squirrel removal, safely, efficiently, and humanely.

Inspection: Squirrels leave chew marks, droppings, and debris like nuts or nesting material. Our technician will look for all three of these things.

Removal: The most common methods used are live trapping, one-way doors, deterrent, and direct capture. Again, leave squirrel removal to the experts.

Repairs: Once the squirrels have been removed, we will seal up all entry points to prevent future entry after squirrel removal. And if these critters left behind feces and debris, we’ll clean up after them for you.

Rodent Pest Control

Like all cities big and small, Cleveland has rodent problems. Whenever humans, buildings, and food come together, chances are rodents will join in the mix. If you happen to notice signs of rats or mice on your around your property, reach out to Critter Control as soon as possible before the number of rodents present multiplies.

Inspection: We will inspect your property inside and out and look for the usual signs of rodent activity such as chewing, droppings, rub marks, nesting material, and small entry points.

Removal: Once we determine the size of your infestation, we will set up the required number of traps. Though the standard trapping/removal duration is normally between 5 to 14 days, the trapping process may be longer if the rodents are well established.

Repairs: Restoring your property after a rodent invasion will require the following steps— sealing up all entry points, the removal of feces and urine, and disinfecting the affected area. Our technician will handle all three.

Bat Removal in Tennessee

Tennessee is home to fifteen bat species, including the federally endangered gray bat. While many people enjoy watching bats take flight, they can become quite a nuisance if they happen to create a roost inside your attic. If this happens inside your home, please contact Critter Control as soon as possible. And please do not try to remove a bat yourself as the state of Tennessee regulates bat removal.

From May 1st to August 1st you cannot remove a bat colony with flightless pups.

Inspection: Your Critter Control technician will take note of any guano, or bat feces, in your attic or crawl space and also conduct a full exterior inspection of your home.

Removal: We will most likely utilize a bat valve in conjunction with a full home exclusion. This is the most humane way to safely remove bats from your home.

Repairs: Our technician will seal up all entry points to ensure bats stay out of your home and clean up all guano. Please leave that task to us as guano removal requires a respirator.

Raccoon Removal

Throughout the night, these animals are on the move looking for food and have been known to topple over trash bins and gobble pet food. If they’re not looking for an easy-to-access trash bin, raccoons may also make their way to your attic or chimney in search of the perfect denning site. If you live in the metro-Chattanooga area and find a raccoon, or signs of the presence of raccoons on your property, reach out to Critter Control rather than try to remove the animals yourself. Although raccoons are a hunted species in Tennessee, keep in mind that raccoons can not only get aggressive—they also carry diseases such as rabies.

Inspection: Our wildlife technician will look for large openings leading to the attic or crawl space and raccoon poop. We will also take note of disturbed trash cans and pet food.

Removal: Live trapping is the most effective and humane way to remove a raccoon. It may be tempting to chase raccoons away from your trash cans or scare them out of your chimney, but please avoid doing this. Let a trained professional handle the situation for you.

Repairs: If a raccoon has established a den inside your home, our technician will seal all entry points to prevent future entry.

Skunk Control

Both Eastern spotted skunks and spotted skunks are found throughout the state of Tennessee. Skunks often visit yards in search of food and a safe place to burrow. In Tennessee, both species can be legally hunted for their pelts. That said, if you have a nuisance skunk or two in your yard, it’s best to rely on professional handling and skunk trapping and avoid getting sprayed.

Inspection: If you notice the pungent odor of a skunk, chances are there’s one nearby. Our technician will inspect your shed, porch, and other outdoor structures in search of skunks, and also make note of any holes and upturned earth on your landscape created by skunks.

Removal: Again, never attempt to chase away a skunk yourself, as these animals will release their spray when threatened. Removing a skunk requires professional tools and techniques, including the use of a cage trap.

Repairs: Our wildlife specialist may recommend property remediation, including the installation of a buried fence barrier system. And before we leave, we will assist with removing all left behind skunk odor on your property.

Opossum Control

Opossums are more of a nuisance than a real danger. They are very common in urban and suburban settings and will eat practically anything.  Opossums will use attics, crawlspaces and the areas under sheds and porches as dens.

Inspection – Scat. Remnants of previous nights foraging and feeding.
Control—Exclusion work most effective method. Live trapping. Securing potential food sources like pet food and garbage. Sealing entry points to prevent entry to attics and crawl spaces. Scare devices provide temporary solutions and chemical repellents have significant effect.

Snake Control in your Home

If you have a snake in your home, you have another animal pest problem. Snakes generally enter a home looking for food. Snakes will also enter your home to explore, shed its skin, or as a temporary refuge.

Removing the snake’s food source is the ideal way to remove a snake.

Inspection- snake skins, snake droppings, odor,
Trapping & Removing- Live traps and direct capture are effective methods. Most non-venomous snakes are protected from killing. Eliminating any prey species and sealing potential entry points help keep snakes from re-entering your home.

Fox Control in Cleveland, TN

Thanks to metro Chattanooga's abundance of food and diverse terrain, large predators thrive in this city. Residents sometimes spot foxes hunting for food in their yards. These pests seek out small prey, like rabbits and squirrels, and can become a little too comfortable being near humans. A fox may attack if it feels threatened.

Wild Hog Control in Cleveland

Wild hog damage costs property owners millions of dollars each year in Tennessee. These pests raze crops, dig up lawns, and contaminate fresh water with their urine and waste. Wild hogs are opportunistic eaters that often enter Cleveland yards in search of food. Almost anything from trash to garden vegetables may attract them.

These pests create muddy wallows and root for insects in yards, damaging grass, plants, and topsoil in the process. Wild hogs give birth multiple times each year, so their populations can increase rapidly. In addition, many diseases and parasites can spread from wild hogs to people, livestock, and pets.

So when I went to have my insulation replaced I figured out that I had a critter problem that was beyond anything I was aware of. Not wanting to waste time I decided to call a professional and these guys were really good from day one. From the gentleman who gave the estimate to both of the guys that came out and did the work there was great communication and they were very effective at what they did. One little thing got missed and all it took was one text message and somebody was out the next day to take care of it. They always text me when they're on their way or going to be at the house and they let me know what they found along with photographs. My first thought when they gave me the quote was wow that was a lot of money and I didn't want to spend that much and now that I've had them do the service I feel like it's worth every penny and it's actually pretty damn reasonable considering the number of times that they come out and all the things that they do take care of.

I had an issue with squirrels getting into a small section of roofing without access from the attic or inside of the home. Critter control was a huge help in solving the issue, especially thanks to Brandon and Nate. Ended up catching 3 squirrels living in the roof plus they seal the entrance point after all is said and done. I would absolutely recommend critter control, Brandon and Nate did a stellar job.

Dominick was very friendly and he consistently put on his shoe covers each time he entered the house. He looked over every inch of the storage room where we thought the animal was and did a walk around the yard to see if there was evidence of entry. He was very thorough. He did not find any animal at that time. He said he would leave a trap and review the outside area of the house over the next week. It was the next day that the smell in our storage room indicated that the animal had died. We followed the small and discovered a dead bird in an open storage bin. I would highly recommend Dominick for 'Critter Control'. Thank you, Valerie

your representative (Dominic) was very friendly and quickly removed the dying raccoon from our outdoor window-well. He also shared information with us regarding raccoons on their behavior, what they liked/disliked, and provided information on how to disinfect the area the raccoon had been trapped in for a couple of days. I'd rate him 9 stars if I could. -pja
