South-central Louisiana, the Cajun Capital of the South, or Cajun Heartland. Lafayette has its own creative culture. More than 120,000 residents are living right here in Bayou country. Unfortunately, we also have our own Cajun nuisance wildlife that moves onto our property and causes damage to our yards, homes, gardens, and more.
As of August 1, 2020, properly licensed resident and non-resident hunters in Louisiana have the right to hunt nuisance animals at night without a permit on private property. This big move tells us there is a serious nuisance wildlife problem in Lafayette and surrounding areas.
Not everyone who has a critter problem on their private property wants to go out at night, hunt, and kill a feral hog, armadillo, nutria, or beaver. Plus, those aren't the only nuisance wildlife we see here in Louisiana. We also have rats and mice, bats, raccoons, snakes, otters, pigeons, alligators, and opossums, to name a few.
Critter Control has a three-step process that is quick and effective in helping you get rid of nuisance wildlife from your property. Below are some examples of what we do.
Raccoons are one of three animals you can hunt, trap, and kill year-round in Louisiana. Raccoons like to take up residence in your attic and crawlspaces, and they don't mind damaging your roof, deck, or the home's structure in the process.
A big part of raccoon removal involves exclusion methods or preventing them from coming onto your property, including lights, sounds, smells, and disposal of trash and debris.
Deer, field, and house mice are prevalent in Louisiana. Because they can fit through tiny holes, they can enter your home without your knowledge. It's probably not worth trying to get rid of a mouse yourself because where there is one, there are others. That's where we can help.
Nutria in Louisiana
has a bounty on their heads to encourage more harvesting of this destructive, web-footed, bucktooth, oversized rodent. They are semi-aquatic so living in the Lafayette area is a dream come true for nutria, but not for property owners.
Nutria can chew on roots of plants that hold wetland soil together. Around your home, they like to chew on the roots of trees, plants, and crops. This can mean the ground your home sits on is unstable. Here's how we can help.
Nutria isn't the only rodent bothering us in Lafayette.
We have
a lot of bats in Lafayette and all across Louisiana, like the big brown bat, Brazilian free-tailed bat, eastern pipistrelle bat, eastern red bat, evening bat, hoary bat, Northern yellow bat, Rafinesque's big-eared bat, Seminole bat, silver-haired bat, and the Southeastern bat.
Bats need shelter. If you have a home with an attic or a barn with a tall ceiling, you have the ideal spot. If you already have a bat problem, you know they can be loud, and their waste is smelly and toxic. Because bats carry rabies and other diseases, it is never a good idea to try and remove bats by yourself. Instead, call our professionals.
