Bat Removal in the Woodlands

Houston area residents are used to seeing these critters, but problems arise when colonies roost in homes, attics, chimneys, and walls. This is because bats in Houston damage structures with their droppings and body oils. Worse, their feces spreads Histoplasmosis, which can cause severe reactions in humans. The presence of bats is marked by squeaking and scratching noises at dusk.

Inspection- Small squeaking sounds. Piles of droppings in one corner of the house or attic. Stains on walls and strong ammonia smell.
Bat Removal- The humane and legal method to remove bats is with a one way bat-valve and sealing all entry points. Generally you can only remove a bat if it’s in the livable part of your home.
Repairs- Sealing entry points. Disinfecting area under roost from accumulation of guano.

Raccoon Removal

Raccoons are intelligent, agile, and fierce. They can find their way into dumpsters, garbage cans, buildings, and even sealed structures due to their strong legs and dexterous hands. Raccoons are highly resourceful when it comes to scavenging for food. For this reason, this is where you will normally find them.

While raccoons may look cute, they are fiercely aggressive and powerful. They carry a wide range of parasites, including roundworms, tapeworms, and ticks. You are most likely to spot raccoons during the summer when they breed. A female raccoon can have up to four kits or cubs at a time.

Inspection: We perform a complete inspection that includes looking for larger openings in walls and roofs and identifying raccoon droppings and footprints.

Trapping & Removal: We can isolate and trap raccoons using professional-grade traps that are simple, humane, and effective.

Repairs: Raccoons can cause extensive damage to the inside of a building. Therefore, we seal up holes, disinfect the area, and replace any damaged insulation or materials.

Rat and Mice Pest Control

Few animals are as resilient as rats and mice. These rodents can set up camp in a building and multiply quickly before you realize they are in your home or business. Mice can crawl in tiny spaces, giving them quick access to any area, which typically includes the kitchen. Mice and rats gnaw through wood and other building materials, which can compromise structural integrity.

Rodents destroy property, contaminate food, and spread diseases, causing any living space to become inhabitable. To get rid of rats or mice, we need to eliminate the entire population in one session. Leaving a single female mouse can repopulate the building in only a few weeks. We use a variety of methods to accomplish this.

Inspection: Rodes such as mice and rats leave behind clear signs of their presence. We look for droppings, chewed paper, and holes in the building and listen for scurrying noises.

Trapping & Removal: When it comes to small rodents, no two situations are alike. We employ different traps and removal methods, depending on your circumstances.

Repairs: Although rodents can chew through building materials, the holes and cracks are relatively small and easy to repair. We can also install mesh for vents.

Squirrel Removal in Montgomery County, TX

The two most common kinds of squirrels found in Montgomery County are the eastern gray squirrel and the fox squirrel.

Like raccoons, squirrels are also seen as cute, furry animals. However, they can cause extensive damage to your roof by chewing through the decking, tearing holes along the edge, and even peeling off asphalt shingles. They can also make a mess of the roof by carrying and dropping debris.

Squirrels actively looking for shelter during January to February and May to June, which is mating season. They are most likely to be in your attic during mating season. Squirrels also carry several diseases and can be highly aggressive when threatened.

Inspection: We typically look for signs of squirrels such as debris and droppings. There may also be holes in your roof or down in the crawl space. Squirrels also leave unique gnaw marks.

Trapping & Removal: One of our most effective methods for removing squirrels is a one-way door trap. We also use live trappings and set up deterrents to keep the squirrels off your property.

Repairs: There are several ways that we can restore your property. Our team can repair all holes, remove debris, and decontaminate the area.

Snake Removal

There is no shortage of snakes in Houston, Texas. Many of them are poisonous and should be avoided. Common snakes in the area include coral snakes, copperheads, rattlesnakes, and cottonmouths.

If you find a snake in your home or office, it is either shedding its skin or looking for prey - usually other pests such as mice or rats. When spotting a snake, the best thing to do is slowly back away and call our professionals to remove it for you. We can remove it quickly and safely, keeping you from getting bit.

Inspection: Snakes usually enter a home in search of food (aka rodents). During our inspection for snakes, we also look for rodents. If rodents are present, we can provide a plan for them too. Snakes have a distinct musky odor that can alert you of their presence. They also leave droppings and skin.

Trapping & Removal: Texas law prevents us from killing non-poisonous snakes. Therefore, we use live traps and direct capture methods to remove them from the property.

Repair: Although snakes do not cause property damage, we can locate points of entry and seal them to prevent future invasions.

Skunk Control

Easily identified by their striking black and white coloring, skunks dig in lawns and make scratching noises when denning under sheds and decks. It's often easy to identify the location of a skunk because of their lingering, unpleasant smell. While they're better known for spraying in self-defense, skunks will bite if cornered. Skunks are the most common carriers of rabies in Texas -- responsible for over half of the state's reported cases. It's best for residents to avoid approaching skunks.

Inspection- Faint odor if skunks typically travel through your yard.

Removal: This step must be handled with care to prevent accidentally setting off the skunk’s defensive spray. With professional removal, there’s little to no chance of an odor issue.

Repairs: Skunks love to dig, chew, and burrow. Let us find all the damage done after a skunk removal and repair it all to restore the structure.

Birds Control in Montgomery County

Birds in Spring, TX and the Woodlands annoy residents when nesting around homes. Local woodpeckers make some of the loudest sounds of any bird, scratching and pecking at the sides of houses to communicate or forage for insects. They also excavate holes in walls and attics for raising their young. Birds also can be dangerous to humans. Nesting parents are aggressive, and species like barn swallows or mockingbirds may attack people who intrude upon brooding sites. Bird infestations can also bring biting, parasitic mites into homes on their feathers.
Inspection: We find all nesting spots on your home and in surrounding trees. We locate food sources, like nuts and leaves on the ground. They will also scavenge through trash on the ground.

Removal: Keeping birds away from your home is the primary goal. We seal holes around your home and install screens over gutters, vents, and pipes. We clean up debris from the yard. Sometimes trimming tree branches can limit a bird’s activity on your property.

Repair: If birds have dented or scratched spouting or outside ledges, we can fix it. We can also install barriers around your roof to prevent roosting.

Opossums in Spring, TX

Attracted to yards by rodents and gardens, the opossum is a nocturnal nuisance in the city of Houston. These pests gorge on anything in their path, creating noise while they pick through garbage bins around garages and sheds. They also make scratching and clawing sounds when hunting rats. Opossums will nest inside structural voids, attics, walls, and crawl spaces. The presence of opossums in Houston yards can lure local predators as well, including coyotes, foxes, and horned owls.

Inspection – Scat. Remnants of previous nights foraging and feeding.
Control—Exclusion work most effective method. Live trapping. Securing potential food sources like pet food and garbage. Sealing entry points to prevent entry to attics and crawl spaces. care devices provide temporary solutions and chemical repellents have significant effect.

Wildlife Control Q&A

What are some of the most common wildlife issues that homeowners face in the Greater Houston area?

Roof rats, squirrels, and raccoons are common year-round. Bats are seasonal (February - November), and mice are common in new developments.

How do the seasons affect wildlife activity in your area?

Bats are definitely affected by season, appearing in the spring and into fall. Rats and mice are year-round as are other mammals, but removal becomes more complex during baby season.

Any wildlfe pest prevention tips for residents in your area?

Homeowners should cut trees back away from the roof line. Any heavy foliage or plants should be a few inches away from the perimeter of the home. Pick up fruit from fallen trees to reduce access to an easy food source. Feed pets indoors wherever possible. Always remove pet fecal matter from your yard, as all these things can attract critters to your property.

Will animal control in Houston remove a wild animal from my home?

No. BARC recommends calling 311 if you have a wild animal inside your home, but they will not respond to service requests for wildlife pest control or wild animals found in your yard. If there is an injured animal on your property, contact the TWRC Wildlife Center at 713-468-8972.

When should homeowners call Critter Control?

Homeowners should call Critter Control as soon as they suspect a critter is in or trying to get in their home. Prevention and early detection will always lead to a more cost-effective process to remedy the situation and prevent any critter-related damage. If you suspect you have a critter in the home, don't go it alone. Sealing in a critter or their young inside your home is likely to result in more damage and cost more to fix. Call the professionals.

So when I went to have my insulation replaced I figured out that I had a critter problem that was beyond anything I was aware of. Not wanting to waste time I decided to call a professional and these guys were really good from day one. From the gentleman who gave the estimate to both of the guys that came out and did the work there was great communication and they were very effective at what they did. One little thing got missed and all it took was one text message and somebody was out the next day to take care of it. They always text me when they're on their way or going to be at the house and they let me know what they found along with photographs. My first thought when they gave me the quote was wow that was a lot of money and I didn't want to spend that much and now that I've had them do the service I feel like it's worth every penny and it's actually pretty damn reasonable considering the number of times that they come out and all the things that they do take care of.

I had an issue with squirrels getting into a small section of roofing without access from the attic or inside of the home. Critter control was a huge help in solving the issue, especially thanks to Brandon and Nate. Ended up catching 3 squirrels living in the roof plus they seal the entrance point after all is said and done. I would absolutely recommend critter control, Brandon and Nate did a stellar job.

Dominick was very friendly and he consistently put on his shoe covers each time he entered the house. He looked over every inch of the storage room where we thought the animal was and did a walk around the yard to see if there was evidence of entry. He was very thorough. He did not find any animal at that time. He said he would leave a trap and review the outside area of the house over the next week. It was the next day that the smell in our storage room indicated that the animal had died. We followed the small and discovered a dead bird in an open storage bin. I would highly recommend Dominick for 'Critter Control'. Thank you, Valerie

your representative (Dominic) was very friendly and quickly removed the dying raccoon from our outdoor window-well. He also shared information with us regarding raccoons on their behavior, what they liked/disliked, and provided information on how to disinfect the area the raccoon had been trapped in for a couple of days. I'd rate him 9 stars if I could. -pja
